New Port Richey, FL (May 30, 2020) - A 41-year-old woman from Crystal River is dead following a five-car crash that took place on Saturday in New Port Richey. The crash occurred around 1:00 a.m. on U.S. 19 near the intersection with Beacon Woods Drive.
Troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol responded to the crash scene. According to reports, the deceased victim was driving an SUV when she stopped for a red light on US 19. As her vehicle was stationary, she was hit from behind by a 31-year-old man from Crystal River. The initial impact pushed the SUV into traffic where it collided with a vehicle that was making a left turn. Two other cars were struck before all vehicles came to rest. The unidentified 41-year-old woman died at the crash scene. Four others sustained minor injuries.
Officers believe that alcohol may have played a role in the crash. An investigation is ongoing.
