North Port, FL (April 17, 2021) - The Florida Highway Patrol responded to the scene of a three-car crash on River Road in North Port. The collision happened around 5:30 p.m. on Friday, April 16th.
The Florida Highway Patrol responded to the scene. According to a report from troopers, a 38-year-old woman from Rotonda West was driving an SUV southbound on River Road when she tried to pass slower traffic. As she passed, she collided with the left side of an SUV that was traveling northbound. The SUV then collided with a northbound pickup truck.
The second SUV flipped over following the crash. An 86-year-old man from Pennsylvania who was driving the SUV died at the crash scene. His 84-year-old passenger was seriously hurt. The pickup truck driver was not hurt and the driver of the first SUV sustained serious injuries. The accident resulted in the closure of River Road for several hours while police investigated at the scene. The identities of the victims have not been released.
