Okaloosa County, FL (September 8, 2018) - Two children were hurt in a school bus crash Friday in Okaloosa County. The bus, which was carrying several students at the time of the accident, attempted to make a left turn from the median onto Martin Luther King Blvd. The bus driver failed to see that a car was already in the median and the bus collided with the side of the car. The bus was traveling to Okaloosa Academy when the crash occurred.
According to Florida Highway Patrol, two students suffered non-life threatening injuries in the crash. There were 31 total children on board at the time of the incident. The injured children were transported to a hospital for treatment. There were no other injuries involved.
School bus crashes are somewhat prevalant across Florida. In 2015, there were a reported 2,698 school bus accidents reported. This number has continued to rise over the years. School bus accidents are caused by negligence of other drivers as well as the school bus driver themselves. In this case, it appears as though the bus driver may have been negligent in causing the crash.
