Okeechobee, FL (December 18, 2020) - A motorcyclist was killed in a crash that took place on Thursday, December 17th in Okeechobee. The accident was reported before noon along U.S. 441 near the intersection with SE 34th Avenue.
According to a report from officials, a motorcyclist was traveling on U.S. 441 when, for unspecified reasons, he stopped on the shoulder of the roadway. While on the shoulder, a pickup truck traveling in the same direction slammed into the back of the motorcycle. The rider, a 53-year-old man from Brooksville, died at the accident scene. He has not been further identified at this time. The driver of the pickup, a 33-year-old man from Okeechobee, was not injured in the accident. He has also not been identified.
There is no word on potential charges at this time. The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating.

Motorcycles are often involved in some of the most serious and catastrophic accidents that are reported in Florida. A motorcycle offers little protection from the force and impact of a collision and is one of the more deadly forms of transportation when a rider is involved in a crash. Each year, over 500 people are killed due to motorcycle accidents in Florida.
