According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, the man was traveling eastbound on McCulloch when he was hit from behind by a sedan. The bicyclist was ejected from his bike. Rescue workers transported him to a local hospital where he died from his injuries. The man's identity has not been released at this time. It is not known whether the driver of the sedan remained at the scene following the crash.
The accident remains under investigation. No further details are available at this time.
Florida is home to many bicyclists. Whether used as a form of exercise or a mode of transportation, bicycling can be an enjoyable activity. However, it is not without risks. Last year, more than 100 people were killed in bicycle accidents in Florida and many more were injured. Bicyclists have little protection from the force and impact of a crash and a bicycle accident often results in serious injuries and even death.
Our condolences are with the victim's family following this fatal bicycle crash in Oviedo.
