Palm Bay, FL (February 1, 2021) - A 17-year-old girl from Merritt Island is dead and two others are seriously hurt following a collision on I-95 in Palm Bay. The crash happened just north of the Palm Bay Road exit around 10:00 a.m.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a 2014 Kia Optima was traveling at a high rate of speed when the 20-year-old driver lost control of the car and collided with a van. The Optima then traveled off the roadway and collided with several trees. The 17-year-old girl was a passenger in the Optima. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Another 17-year-old passenger and the driver both suffered serious injuries in the crash and were taken to Holmes Regional Medical Center in Melbourne. There is no word on whether anyone in the van was injured.
An investigation into the accident is ongoing at this time. There is no further information available.

A motorcyclist suffered critical injuries in a crash involving a Daytona Beach police cruiser on Monday, September 23rd. The crash happened around 3:14 a.m. on Main Street. According to reports from the Florida Highway Patrol, the motorcyclist was pulling out from a nearby sidewalk when he was hit by a marked police car. The police car and motorcycle collided with one another. Paramedics transported the injured motorcyclist to Halifax Hospital for treatment of his injuries.
