Palm Harbor, FL (July 4, 2021) - Troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a deadly crash in Palm Harbor on Saturday, July 3rd. The crash happened just before 10:00 a.m. on County Road 1 near Manning Road.
According to a preliminary report, a 39-year-old woman from Dunedin was traveling southbound on CR 1. At the same time, a 61-year-old Dunedin woman was traveling in a second SUV northbound on CR 1 and a passenger bus was also traveling northbound. For unknown reasons, the driver of the southbound SUV traveled into the northbound lanes and collided head-on with the second SUV before rotating into the passenger bus and coming to rest.
The southbound SUV driver was killed in the crash while the northbound driver was taken to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg with non-life-threatening injuries. The bus driver was not injured. None of the crash victims have been identified at this time.
An investigation is ongoing. There is no further information available.
In 2019, there were more than 3,000 reported fatalities in Florida car accidents. These fatal crashes, unfortunately, take place each and every day on our roadways. A large number of fatal car accidents in Florida are the result of negligent drivers. Police will continue to investigate this accident in order to determine the cause.
