Pasco County, FL (June 6, 2019) - A motor scooter rider is in critical condition after being hit by a car on Tuesday, June 4th.
Police say that 65-year-old Gustavo Alonso was riding the scooter around 10:25 a.m. on Little Road, near Ross Lane. At the same time, 73-year-old William Lannes Reid was driving a 2014 Jeep Wrangler. He attempted to pass Alonso in the outside lane but instead collided with the rear of the scooter. Alonso was seriously hurt and was taken to Regional Medical Center at Bayonet Point where he was listed in critical condition.
Troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol cited Reid for careless driving for his role in the crash.
A reportable crash occurs approximately every 90 seconds in Florida. Many crashes are caused by drivers who fail to follow traffic laws.
