Pensacola, FL (September 17, 2018) - A suspected DUI driver is responsible for crashing into a parked car and injuring two people according to Florida Highway Patrol. On Sunday, September 16th at around 1:13 am, Stephen Neil Rigsby was driving a 2015 Nissan Altima on Pursley Avenue. Rigsby's vehicle left the roadway and crashed into a 2002 Chevrolet Corvette that was parked on the side of the road. At the time of the crash, two people were attempting to get inside the vehicle.
Both occupants of the Corvette were hurt in the crash. Police say that 47 year old Julie Ann Gould of Pensacola suffered critical, life-threatening injuries. 57 year old Patrick Daniel Gould, also of Pensacola sustained minor injuries. Both were transported to the hospital for treatment.
Following investigation, Rigsby was booked into the Escambia County Jail on charges of DUI causing serious bodily injury, leaving the scene of a crash and reckless driving causing serious bodily injury. Following the crash, Rigsby tried to leave the scene but nearby witnesses apprehended him until police could arrive.
He is in jail under a $17,500 bond.
In 2016, there were over 5,000 confirmed DUI-related fatal crashes. In addition, there were many more DUI crashes that were not fatal but involved injuries to one or more people.
