Pinellas County, FL (December 31, 2018) - A man is dead following a two-car crash on Starkey Road. The crash happened on Sunday, December 30th, near Magnolia Drive.
The Florida Highway Patrol reports that a truck was traveling northbound on Starkey Road when a white car attempted to turn left onto Magnolia Drive. The car and the truck collided with one another. The driver of the car, Robert Lee Fournier, suffered critical injuries and died in the crash. The driver of the truck sustained life-threatening injuries. It was later determined that both the truck's driver and passenger were under the influence of alcohol when the crash took place. The passenger also sustained serious injuries in the collision.
FHP continues to investigate but has said that both alcohol and speed were factors in the wreck. There is no word at this time on any potential charges.
A fatal accident is reported about every three hours in Florida. Unfortunately, alcohol plays a role in many fatal accidents across our state. In 2016, there were 416 reported traffic fatalities involving alcohol. Alcohol impairment continues to cost hundreds of lives on our streets and highways each year and is one of the most irresponsible things that a driver can do.
