According to officials, 40-year-old Hector Rafael Nin, Jr. was riding a Suzuki motorcycle eastbound in the 1200 block of Cypress. At the same time, 23-year-old Rodre Hamilton of Kissimmee was traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes of the Cypress as he tried to pass another vehicle. Hamilton’s SUV struck Nin head-on, throwing him off his bike.
The Polk County Fire Rescue responded to the scene and treated Nin for critical injuries. He was later pronounced dead. Hamilton was not hurt in the crash and remained at the scene.
An investigation is ongoing at this time. There is no word on potential charges.
Fatal traffic accidents in Florida take place about once every three hours. Accidents involving motorcycles tend to have greater risks of death or serious injuries than accidents involving other types of vehicles. Motorcycles do not provide the same level of protection as a traditional passenger car and victims can end up being seriously injured or killed in crashes that are not their fault.
Our most sincere condolences go out to the family of Hector Nin following this tragic motorcycle crash in Polk County.
