Polk County, FL (May 28, 2019) - One person is dead following a crash between a dump truck and a street sweeper on Tuesday, May 28th. The crash took place around 8:42 a.m., near Interstate 4 and Old Grade Road.
44-year-old Darwin Gordon Phillips was driving a 2006 GMC TK street sweeper traveling behind a dump truck driven by 50-year-old Jason Lee Davis. Davis stopped to make a left turn when he was struck from behind by the street sweeper. After impact, the street sweeper erupted into flames. Phillips died at the scene of the crash. Davis was taken to Heart of Florida Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Troopers are still investigating the crash and there is no further information available at this time.
