Punta Gorda, FL (May 18, 2021) - A 39-year-old man from North Fort Myers was killed in a scooter crash on Tuesday. The incident took place in Punta Gorda around 2:00 p.m.
Police responded to the scene at U.S. Highway 41 and Tangelo Road. According to a report, a 27-year-old man from Fort Myers was driving a FedEx truck when he rear-ended the scooter. The driver was thrown from the bike and landed in the roadway. Rescue workers pronounced him dead at the scene. The man's identity has not been revealed at this time. There were no additional injuries reported.
Officials reported that the FedEx driver was driving carelessly at the time of the crash. An investigation is ongoing and there is no word on charges at this time.
