Putnam County, FL (October 11, 2019) - One person is dead and another suffered serious injuries in a wrong-way crash that took place in Putnam County on Thursday, October 10th. The accident happened on State Road 100 near County Road 309D and Bardin Road.
According to reports from the Florida Highway Patrol, a Jeep Cherokee was traveling westbound on SR 100 while a Kia Optima was traveling eastbound. Around 3:15 p.m. the Jeep crossed into the eastbound lanes of the roadway, striking the side of the Kia. The Jeep rolled over after the crash, throwing the driver from the vehicle. The driver, identified as a 42-year-old man from East Palatka, died at the scene. The driver of the Kia, a 51-year-old woman from Orange Park was taken to UF Health Shands with serious injuries. The cause of the crash has not been determined.
An investigation by the Highway Patrol is ongoing.
