Sarasota County, FL (February 28, 2019) - A 75-year-old man is dead following a hit-and-run crash along the shoulder of I-75 in Sarasota County, near mile marker 202, on Wednesday, February 27th.
At about 7:30 p.m., investigators with the Florida Highway Patrol were called to the crash scene, where troopers say that Jorge Quezada was standing outside of a vehicle that was parked on the side of the roadway. While he was standing on the passenger side of the car, a Honda CR-V and a 2005 Ford truck were traveling together down the interstate.
The truck failed to slow down and slammed into the back of the Honda, causing the truck to veer off the roadway and strike Quezada. Quezada died at the scene of the crash. The truck driver immediately fled the scene but the truck itself was located nearby shortly after the crash. Police are still looking for the driver.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Florida Highway Patrol. The crash is still under investigation.
Our thoughts and condolences go out to the loved ones of Jorge Quezada, and we hope they are able to come together as a family during this difficult time. Losing a loved one to a car accident is frustrating and devastating. The pain is made even worse when the crash involves a hit-and-run and the driver is attempting to evade legal responsibility for the damage that has been caused.
