Sarasota, FL (June 29, 2021) - A 48-year-old bicyclist sustained serious injuries in a hit-and-run accident in Sarasota on Sunday morning. The accident happened around 11:00 a.m on Cattlemen Road near Brown Lane.
Police report that a red Hyundai was traveling northbound in the right lane of Cattlemen. At the same time, the bicyclist was traveling in the same direction in the bicycle lane. The Hyundai driver lost control of the vehicle and veered off the road before striking the curb. The driver overcorrected the vehicle and entered the bike lane where it struck the bicyclist from behind. The driver fled the scene and the car was found abandoned about two blocks away. The bicyclist, identified as a man from Bradenton, was taken to the hospital for treatment. Police are still searching for the driver of the Hyundai.
An investigation is ongoing at this time.
