Sarasota, FL (September 9, 2019) - One person was killed and three others were hurt in a four-vehicle hit-and-run crash in Sarasota on Sunday night, September 8th. The crash happened on University Parkway.
The Florida Highway Patrol reports that 34-year-old David Charles Bunick of Sarasota was driving a BMWX5 when he came to a stoplight. Bunick failed to stop for the traffic signal. He struck the rear end of a Toyota Camry driven by 17-year-old Destinee Foxx and collided with the right side of a Lexus IS350 driven by 38-year-old Michelle Kramer Baltaji. 70-year-old Audrey Irene Kramer was a passenger in the Lexus.
Kramer suffered fatal injuries as a result of the crash. Another passenger in the Lexus, infant Abed Baltaji, sustained critical injuries. Two others sustained minor injuries. Bunick fled the scene on foot but was later found by police and brought back to the crash scene.
An investigation into the accident is ongoing at this time.
Our deepest condolences go out to the family of Audrey Kramer and we hope for the complete recovery of all other injured victims. Hit-and-run crashes account for approximately 25% of all reported car accidents in our state. Hit-and-run accidents are frequently severe in nature and many hit-and-run drivers flee in an effort to avoid responsibility for their actions.
