Sarasota, FL (November 9, 2020) - The Sarasota Police Department is investigating following a fatal pedestrian accident in the city on Sunday, November 8th. The accident occurred at the intersection of Tuttle Avenue and Wood Street.
According to officers, a male pedestrian was attempting to cross the road when he was hit by a vehicle. The pedestrian sustained critical injuries and died at the crash scene. His identity is being withheld at this time pending family notification. The man was not in a crosswalk when he was struck. The driver of the car remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation.
No further details have been released at this time.
A fatal pedestrian accident is reported in Florida about twice per day. Each year, there are approximately 500 fatal pedestrian crashes in Florida. In addition, thousands of more victims will be injured in pedestrian accidents. Pedestrians are extremely vulnerable and are more likely than others to be hurt in traffic crashes.
