St. Johns County, FL (January 11, 2019) - The victim of a deadly multi-vehicle crash in St. Johns County has been identified by police. Just before 5:00 am on Thursday, January 10th, three vehicles were involved in a collision in I-95 near the exit with US 1.
Police say that a woman driving a Toyota Corolla was traveling northbound when she lost control and hit a guardrail before coming back on the highway and being struck by two other vehicles. A passenger in the Corolla, 25-year-old Jose Vazquez-Trujillo of Palm Coast, was killed in the crash. The Corolla Driver, 25-year-old Dhayre Oquendo, suffered serious injuries and was taken to Halifax Hospital. Two children were also hurt in the crash and were taken to Flagler Hospital for treatment.
The northbound lanes of I-95 were blocked for several hours, causing heavy delays at the scene. There is no word at this time on whether any charges will be filed in connection with the crash.
Our condolences are with the families affected by this tragic wreck on I-95. Losing a loved one to a fatal crash is one of the most difficult things for a family to endure. No one ever expects to receive word that their family member has been killed under such tragic circumstances.
