Tampa, FL (July 21, 2021) - A 58-year-old woman from Spring Hill died in a car accident that took place on Wednesday in Tampa. The collision occurred around 8:35 on Interstate 4, just west of 50th Street.
According to police, a 37-year-old man from St. Petersburg was traveling eastbound on I-4 when he collided with the back of the woman's vehicle while changing lanes. The car was pushed into a barrier in the middle of the roadway. The woman, who was not immediately identified, was taken to a local hospital where she succumbed to her injuries. The man sustained only minor injuries due to the collision.
The Florida Highway Patrol is actively investigating the accident at this time. There is no word on whether any charges are expected to be filed.
Tragically, a fatality is reported on Florida's roadways about once every three hours. In 2019, more than 3,000 people lost their lives in Florida car accidents. While some of these victims were at fault for the crash, many of them were not and were killed by the actions of a negligent driver.
Our thought and condolences are with the victim's family at this time.
