Tampa, FL (January 5, 2020) - A 75-year-old man is dead following a DUI crash in Tampa on Saturday, January 5th. The crash took place on Nebraska Avenue.
According to reports, 30-year-old Roman Matos was involved in a crash in the early morning hours with another vehicle. The driver of the other vehicle suffered critical injuries and was pronounced dead at the crash scene. He has not been identified at this time. An investigation revealed that Matos had a blood alcohol level of .26, more than three times the legal limit in Florida.
Matos was arrested and charged with DUI manslaughter. There are no details on how the crash took place at this time.
Approximately 400 people lost their lives in Florida DUI crashes in 2017 and there were more than 5,000 accidents involving DUI drivers during this same time period. Driving under the influence is an extremely reckless and irresponsible act that can result in severe consequences for innocent victims, including the loss of life.
