Tampa, FL (March 17, 2019) - A 41-year-old pedestrian is dead after he was hit by a vehicle in Tampa on Saturday, March 16th. Police say that the incident occurred on Starkey Road, near Park Boulevard, just before 1:30 a.m.
Derrick Cunningham was attempting to cross Starkey Road in the westbound direction when he was struck by a 2018 Mazda 3. Cunningham was not in a crosswalk at the time he was hit by the vehicle. The driver of the Mazda, a 21-year-old, sustained no injuries in the crash. Cunningham sustained critical injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.
The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office is investigating the crash. At this time, speed and alcohol do not appear to have played a role in the accident. No further details are available.
