Tampa, FL (September 2, 2019) - A multi-vehicle crash on I-275 in Tampa left the road closed for hours and caused injuries to at least one person. The crash took place on Sunday, September 1st around 5:15 p.m.
Police say that a car was attempting to merge onto the highway when the driver lost control of his vehicle, causing it to veer across several northbound lanes of traffic. The car hit several other vehicles before slamming into a concrete wall. The impact caused concrete chunks to become dislodged from the wall and land in the southbound lanes of the highway. At least two southbound vehicles collided with the concrete, causing one of them to erupt in flames.
Traffic on both sides of the highway was at a standstill until about 8:15 p.m. The injuries were believed to be non-life-threatening. There are no additional details available at this time.
We hope that all who were hurt in this crash have a complete recovery. There will be approximately 250,000 injury accidents reported across our state this year. Many of these crashes will take place on busy highways and major roads. Heavy traffic volume and higher speed limits make highways a breeding ground for serious, multi-vehicle accidents. Injured victims are often in the wrong place at the wrong time during one of these crashes.
