Tampa, FL (March 11, 2021) - A police officer killed in a crash with a wrong-way driver in Tampa on Tuesday. The collision took place just before 1:00 a.m. on Interstate 275 near Hillsborough Avenue.
According to Tampa Police Chief Brian Dugan, Officer Jesse Madsen was on duty when he received a call regarding a wrong-way driver. Officer Madsen responded to the call when he collided with the wrong-way vehicle that was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of the highway. Madsen, a 45-year veteran of the police force, died at the crash scene. The driver of the sedan, 25-year-old Joshua Montague, of Golden, Co., also died in the crash. No other vehicles were involved.
There is no word on the accident at this time and an investigation is ongoing.
Sadly, there are about 3,000 fatalities each year due to car accidents in Florida. A fatal Florida car accident can cause devastation and destruction among friends and family members. This is especially true when a loved one is killed in a crash involving a negligent driver.
