Tampa, FL (June 27, 2018) - One woman was hit by a garbage truck in Tampa, resulting in a pedestrian fatality. The woman was identified as 65-year-old Marcia Woodside Rivers, who is a retired Hillsborough County school teacher. She was struck and killed by the garbage truck near her Tampa apartment yesterday morning.
Rivers was struck on Davis Islands, across the street from where she lived. Police originally received the call around 9:14 a.m. on Aegean Drive and Davis Boulevard. Police arrived and found her dead at the scene of the incident.
Her family members say that she was a retired school teacher, music lover, and one of the funniest people they ever met. She taught at a variety of middle schools.
Witnesses claimed that they saw the driver of the garbage truck "freaking out" in the street after he struck her. He noticed her under the vehicle and that was when he had the realization that he hit her.
At this time, detectives are taking a closer look at the accident to see what contributed to it. At this time, no charges have been filed.
