Venice Beach, FL (June 5, 2019) - A man is dead after a two-car crash on Tuesday, June 4th. The collision occurred around 3:30 p.m. on Barcelona Avenue and The Esplanade.
According to a press release from the City of Venice, a blue Ford Econoline was traveling westbound on Barcelona while a black Nissan was driving south on The Esplanade. For unknown reasons, the vehicles collided with one another at the intersection of the two streets. Following the crash, the Nissan hit a pole and the van collided with a building. The Nissan driver was pronounced dead at the crash scene, while a child passenger in the Nissan was airlifted to Bayfront Medical Center. The van driver was taken to Sarasota Memorial Hospital with unknown injuries.
Investigators with the Venice Police Department are still looking into the crash. There is no word at this time on whether charges are expected to be filed.
