Wellborn, FL (August 6, 2018) – A two-vehicle accident occurred in Wellborn that led to life-threatening injuries in a Lake City man. The accident happened yesterday night and the Florida Highway Patrol is investigating.
According to police, 38-year-old Meliton Martin Perez was headed east on the highway around 5:10 p.m. when his Explorer suddenly veered into the westbound lane of traffic and onto the grassy shoulder nearby. The teen then turned back onto the westbound lane and into the path of a Nissan heading west. The Nissan then struck the Explorer.
Perez was quickly airlifted to the hospital in critical condition due to the severity of his injuries.
The 31-year-old passenger in the Explorer has been identified as Ruben De Jesus. The driver of the Nissan received serious injuries and was taken to the hospital along with Jesus.
US 90 was closed for two hours.
