West Palm Beach, FL (October 11, 2018) - A 28-year-old man died in a crash that occurred in Palm Beach in the early morning hours on Monday, October 8th. The crash took place at the intersection of Jog Road and Southern Boulevard.
That is where police say a 2005 Kia Amanti collided with a median and two trees around 4:30 am. At the time of the crash, Jose C. Maldonado was a passenger in the Kia. He was rushed to St. Mary's Medical Center with critical injuries. Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead at the hospital. Another passenger, 24-year-old Jose R. Maldonado was admitted to the hospital with serious injuries.
An investigation revealed that the Kia driver, 28-year-old Keifer Wright, was impaired when the crash occurred. Wright sustained minor injuries.
Charges against Wright are pending at this time.
We extend our condolences to the family of Jose C. Maldonado in this tragic West Palm Beach crash. It appears as though Maldonado was the victim of an impaired driver.
In cases of injuries to vehicle passengers, the passengers will normally have the same legal rights as another driver or pedestrian would have when it comes to bringing a personal injury claim against a negligent driver. In this crash, the family of Jose C. Maldonado could file a claim against Keifer Wright on the basis that Wright's negligence caused a crash which resulted in death. In Florida, anyone who gets behind the wheel owes a duty of safety to other drivers as well as their passengers.
