West Palm Beach, FL (November 2, 2019) - A 25-year-old graduate assistant at Florida Atlantic was killed and his passenger suffered serious injuries in a rollover crash on Florida's Turnpike. The crash took place on Friday, November 1st around 2:30 a.m.
Police responded to the crash scene near Southern Boulevard. According to reports, Polycarpo was traveling northbound in a 2009 Dodge Caliber when his vehicle was suddenly cut off by a second vehicle that merged into his lane of travel. Polycarpo swerved to avoid a collision and lost control of his car. The vehicle spun around, went off the roadway, and struck a tree. Polycarpo died as a result of the injuries he suffered in the crash. His passenger, 26-year-old Mailyn Toribio was taken to a nearby hospital with serious injuries.
There is no word on whether any charges are expected. Police are still investigating the crash at this time.
