Winter Haven, FL (July 5, 2021) - Deputies with the Polk County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene of a fatal accident on Sunday night. The crash occurred around 10:30 p.m. on Thornhill Road at the intersection with Byni Ridge in Winter Haven.
According to an initial report, a 2016 Kia Optima was traveling northbound on Thornhill and a 2004 Toyota Tundra was traveling south on the same road. Deputies report that the Kia crossed over the centerline and collided head-on with the Toyota. The 29-year-old female driver of the Kia died at the scene. Her passenger, a 36-year-old man from Auburndale, was rushed to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. The driver's 4-year-old son was airlifted to a hospital in serious condition. The driver of the pickup truck and his four passengers were also hospitalized with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
There is no word on the cause of the crash at this time. Deputies are currently investigating. No further information is available.
