Rubenstein Law’s Tips to Beat the Heat this Summer

Are you ready for intense summer weather?

As the temperature hikes up, be sure to hike up your efforts to stay safe this summer.  Rubenstein Law shares a few helpful tips to keep you cool this season.

1. Stay hydrated.  Don’t wait until you’re thirsty to drink water - always have some H20 to go. Drink enough water according to your age, build and lifestyle.

TIP: Avoid alcohol, caffeinated or carbonated drinks and salty foods—they dehydrate you.

2. Make smart sartorial selections. Light-weight, looser garments in breathable fabrics are ideal, while light-colored clothing don’t retain extra heat.

TIP: A hat will keep your head cool and shields you from the sun. Clothing such as long sleeves and pants in breathable fabrics are another form of sun protection.

3. Leave no one behind. Never leave pets, children or vulnerable adults alone inside a car.

FYI: The inside of a car could reach temperatures of 140-190°F within minutes.

4. Don't overexert yourself. If you must work or exercise outdoors, be sure to pace yourself. Make time to hydrate and rest in shaded areas to allow your body to regain its temperature.

TIP: Use a buddy system to monitor your coworkers, children, family or friends for signs of heat illness.

5. Keep an eye out. Supervise children who play outdoors.

FYI: The sun’s peak hours are roughly between 10AM and 4PM. Avoid outdoor activities during the hottest hours of the day.

6. Know the signs. Learn about the symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke and know the proper measures to take in the case of an incident.

FYI: Lack of timely and proper care can result in death or damage to vital organs.

Enjoy the season and remember—the best times are had when precaution is taken!

If you or a loved one has been injured in a summer activity, you don't need to beat the insurance companies alone. Injuries or accidents at a swimming pool, amusement park, bicycle accidents, slip and falls, or boating accidents, may be due to negligence.
